This newly offered one-year course of study in Orange County provides clinical and theoretical seminars which promote the acquisition of a comprehensive foundation in psychoanalytic ideas. The courses are taught by senior NCP faculty who are chosen for their teaching abilities and outstanding clinicians.

Admission Requirements

This program is open to applicants who hold a current license to practice and to interns who practice under the auspices of a licensed supervisor. Psychiatric residents must have completed their first post-graduate year of training. For the highly qualified non-licensed applicant, occasional exceptions are made on a case by case basis. Applicants are interviewed by members of the Psychotherapy Steering Committee, Orange County.

Structure

Seminars meet Wednesday, from 7-10 pm, September to June, on the campus of the UCI Medical Center in Orange. Seminars examine the essential aspects of psychoanalytic psychotherapy theory and techniques, with a comprehensive survey of human development and psychopathology.

In addition, course participants will be required to purchase three assigned texts.

Through our affiliation with UCI, medical students, residents, and fellows may attend the course as an elective within their programs without charge.

Privileges

Students may use the Alexander-Simmel Library, a collection of psychoanalytic research material – journals, books, audio tapes, film and the PEP web archive. The library includes all basic readings required for the seminars.

Students are invited to all Center activities. Graduates of this program are eligible to become affiliate members of the New Center.
